✨ Hope you all had a lovely summer break and are settling back into the new school year!

✨ Happy Birthday, Cathy! It was Cathy’s birthday last Sunday — we hope you had a lovely day celebrating!

✨ Welcome, Jo! We’re really pleased to welcome lo to the team. Jo has joined us as a volunteer and will also be picking up some work with us as an Associate Assistant Educational Psychologist. It’s lovely to have you as part of the team, Jo!

✨ We had two coaching days for the team last week, which gave us a great opportunity to come together, catch up and go through all of our projects. Katie delivered some really useful sessions around sensory communication to the team.

✨ Watch out for new announcements regarding our exciting projects coming soon 👀

✨ Over the summer holidays, we had a new logo created for our Specialist Teacher, Vic. We now have a gorgeous new wreath design that we’ll be using across Vic’s documentation. We think it looks lovely!

✨ We’re excited to have launched a new Psychology Administrator vacancy as we continue to grow our team. If you know anyone who may be interested in the role, please do share the advert with them. We’d really appreciate you helping us spread the word!

✨ Our next ELSA training programme is coming up, starting on 7th October. – Equip your staff with the skills and confidence to make a lasting difference to the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. Places are limited, contact the office to book a place.

✨We’re really excited to be working with an alternative provision called Side Step, supporting young people experiencing EBSA. The work will focus on helping young people to build skills, confidence and resilience, with the aim of supporting them to increase their school attendance.

✨Get in touch to find out how Waite Psychology can support your school.

With World Suicide Prevention Day taking place tomorrow (10 September), we thought this would be a really important and timely book recommendation to share this week.

✨ Ruby’s Worry – Tim Percival✨

Ruby is a little girl who discovers a worry that follows her everywhere. At first, she keeps it to herself, but eventually she realises that talking about her feelings can help make things feel a little lighter.

We love this book because it provides a simple, child-friendly way to explore big feelings and the importance of talking to someone when something is troubling us.

Books can be a wonderful starting point for these conversations — helping children find the words for feelings that can sometimes be difficult to explain.

A small conversation can make a big difference.

✨ My Monster and Me – Nadiya Hussain✨

This is a gentle and beautifully illustrated story about worry, anxiety and the thoughts that can sometimes feel much bigger than we are.

The story offers a lovely way to help children begin talking about difficult feelings and understand that it’s okay to share what’s going on inside.

We particularly love the message that worries don’t have to be faced alone. Sometimes, simply having someone listen, talk things through and help us make sense of how we’re feeling can be an important first step.

A thoughtful book for opening up conversations around emotional wellbeing in a gentle, accessible way. 💛

✨We are excited to be launching our new SENDCo supervision and mentoring – designed for both new and experienced SENDCo’s, this service provides specialist coaching, guidance, and a supportive space to discuss challenges, develop confidence, and strengthen SEND leadership.

Sessions can be tailored to individual schools and cover everything from strategic SEND development to complex pupil needs and statutory processes. If you would like further information, get in touch.

✨Jen had her first radio interview on BBC Cumbria this week, which was a great experience even though daunting at first Jen did absolutely amazing.

They explored why some children’s TV characters can seem frightening even to adults!)

If you’d like to have a listen, you can catch Jen’s discussion from 1 hour and 10 minutes into the programme.

✨Katie’s has been super busy over the last couple of weeks delivering various different training sessions – we are hoping to plan more Executive Functioning sessions as we believe this can be really useful for schools and we have had great feedback.

✨Keep your eyes on our socials for exciting news being announced later this week 👀

✨The last few weeks of term are always incredibly busy, with reports, transition meetings, sports days, end-of-year events, and preparing pupils for the summer break. It can feel like everything happens at once!

As one academic year comes to a close, it’s also the perfect time to start thinking ahead to September.

If you’re planning your SEND provision, considering support for individual pupils, developing an Integrated Inclusion Base, looking for staff training, or would simply like to discuss how we can support your setting in the new academic year, we’d love to hear from you.

A little planning now can make all the difference for a positive start in September. 💛
